NYFW DAY 3…

As NYFW has come to an end. I honestly don’t know what to do with myself. I decided to volunteer for DC Fashion Week in assisting with their Instagram stories. First day, I was on point I had a lot of content that I included on my stories. Second day, call time was 12pm and I ended up sitting around for hours trying to find something or anything to do. The show was about to start at 7pm, the event coordinator calls everyone to the runway. I’m thinking he wants me to get a good spot to get social media content. Girl, he tells me I’m going to be a host & seating the guest. In a joking non joking way, I was like you need me. One girl started laughing cause my expression was like I don’t want to do this. And that was absolutely correct. If I sign-up to help with your social media content and the director tells me he needs Instagram content every day. I’m thinking that was my role, but I should have known fashion shows roles are always changing. Depending on what they need at that moment. Honestly, there was no initial plan to create Instagram stories for each show. Mind you, Instagram stories get deleted after 24 hours. Me including on my instastories was a waste time. Then to come find out, there was some control issues with having access to the DC Fashion Week Instagram. The director wanted to approve all the content that was being put on instastories. I was like you know what I can’t. Why waste our time. I have taken over many brands Instagram account. The first thing you do is trust the person will bring you good content and second you have one person that has the password. That way they can post on your behalf. If you want to become a bigger brand you need to be with the times. It’s all good, it definitely was experience that I needed to check off my list. Thanks boo, I did it!!!!

Back to NYFW, as I was saying my new friends were able to attend this season. Especially my blogger friend Kayla Robbins. One day, we made planned a happy hour date. Ever since then we all about making time for each other. Whether it’s for fashion or eating out or just enjoying each other’s company. She has shown me wat a true friend looks like. If your friend cares about they show you appreciation whether it’s buying me something or treating me. I never knew there was actual friends that do exist. Kayla attended NYFW, I was so happy I was like where have you been all my life. She loves fashion as much as I do. We’re planning for NYFW and Paris in September already planning our looks. I’m so excited I can’t even stand myself right now…just kidding! Go follow her for more looks over at IG: imsooverdressed IG: @february_n_september and her blog link is www.februaryandseptember.com

Fashion week is never disappointing. This season the fashion shows were so impeccable. Collections that consisted of flowy gowns, fall suits, sweatshirts with dresses, and punk chic! On the runway you’ll find any look that fits your style. That’s why I love fashion week. It gets me inspired and helps my creativity side blossom. I realized I’ve been sleeping on the streetstyle. Don’t worry about getting in the show, show up and serve them some fashion looks. And that’s what I did serve you my looks! I know next season you see me on a magazine cover…I dream so big!

See you next season NYFW!

HAKAN AKKAYA NYFW….

Hakan Akkaya makes a statement this FW 2020/2021 season. The Istanbul based designer continues to showcase his designs during NYFW with a jaw-dropping collection that hit the runway. I would say that the collection seemed to be inspired by the gothic Amish chic. But more or less Amish Punk chic with high cut necklines from that century by remixing it to the modern-day! But who doesn’t love black? Black clothing can be worn from day-to-night. This collection showed us that black is still a color that never goes out of style.

As women, we show so much power in the way we walk, talk, and dress. We women have such a connection with clothing that it makes us feel confident in the way we dress.  In his words, Hakan Akkaya says, “this season, my collection attracts all of the attention of femicide, justice, revolt, and equality. Women who rock the runway – Women who rock the world!”

The collection strongly embraced the androgyny trend.  A lot of the men wore dresses, skirts, and tunic blouses whereas the women had more of a tailored look. Literally, both men and women could borrow some pieces not having any gender limits from the Hakan Akkaya collection. The talented Hakan Akkaya designer made pieces that were ready to wear. It’s hard to find a designer that can possess pieces that can be worn off the runway. Hakan designer made those pieces wearable…

Many of the pieces had a variety of fitted dresses, capes, and all you can find latex garments making this collection effortless and edgy. The details of each piece showed that the collection was absolutely perfect.

NYFW DAY 2….

Hello All,

Fashion Week was full in effect. I had several things going on during NYFW. First, I had an NYFW giveaway which I gave one lucky winner an opportunity to go to fashion week. Honestly, it was the best experience teaching the ins and outs of fashion week. I didn’t realize how much I do to prepare for fashion week. I got a lot of feedback on what to change for the giveaway next time!
I was contemplating working with this photographer Maurico Sanchez, and then I was like no I need photos. It was so worth it! Maurico had such great energy and made the street style group photoshoot so much fun! Here are the photos from the street style group photoshoot!
Maurico had us meet at several locations but our first location was at Public Hotels. We found a cool spot near the public hotel’s entrance. A lit-up escalator such a cool shot!
Our next stop was a cool graffiti wall!

Maurico was good about moving us from one location to the next! We took this shot near a busy street corner.

Last stop we went to Spring Studios the NYFW venue location. This location is a good meeting place for other street style fashion-minded individuals. You’ll find anyone from a celebrity to fashion influencer.  It’s a good way to end our group photoshoot!

My friend Kayla over at @imsooverdressed attended NYFW for the first time. Best believe she really enjoyed her time during NYFW. Were now both literally preparing for September NYFW as we speak. You can definitely expect us to come ready for this street style and our looks to be on point.
Next up was my photographer Carlton Hart from the DMV area got some shots of me!

I meet some amazing people especially Frank Myrtle, he was so nice and I’m glad I ran into him during NYFW! It looks like we have been friends forever.

If you think about Fashion Week is its own engine that keeps on going all week. Being organized and knowing what you want to do all week…It is a must…..The designs were definitely impeccable as well as eye-catching for ready to wear! I can’t wait for September I can even sleep because I’m so excited!

NYFW GIVEAWAY TIME!!!

I’m giving one fashion-minded individual to enter in this NYFW giveaway. To experience a fashion experience like no other!  When I started this fashion week experience, I didn’t think people wanted to actually go to NYFW. Then I realized there’s a lot of fashion-minded people that don’t know the ins and outs of going to fashion week. The going to fashion week is easy. But it’s about the planning process that people are not willing to do or don’t know how to do. There were many years that I didn’t attend fashion week until one day I said…I’m going to fashion week!

All in all, Fashion week is the place to be. You have individuals that come to slay.
Let’s talk about the process. You have to prepare months in advance.
The dates are key to attending fashion week. I usually go to fashion week on weekend from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon. Attending fashion doesn’t have to be a weeklong stay. Work with dates that your schedule permits.
Plan your Outfits-I plan my looks the night before or attending a big event. And fashion week is a big event. If you can buy your outfits online or shop at your favorite clothing store, get that accessory, wigs, hats, and find that right bag. When you find that right look. It becomes priceless.

Write the best pitch Letter-Pitch letter is a must if you’re wanting to attend the fashion week. Get someone to help write the best pitch letter that expresses your personality and illustrates your brand. Make a list of designers that you want to attend their shows. Send emails to the designer’s PR company expressing your interest in going to their show. People don’t realize that you’ll spend hours writing and perfecting your pitch letter. Once, you get a response sometimes you’ll get a no and others a yes. Don’t get frustrated work with the yes’s and find other events that you can attend while in NYC.

Find a place on Airbnb- I never get a hotel that is too expensive. I love going on vacation and finding that Airbnb. You’ll save money as NYC hotels are expensive. I found this cute place in Manhattan for only $400 for 4 days. What a steal.

Make a schedule- Based on the dates you attend the fashion week. Make a schedule of shows that you’ll be attending. I put my schedule in a google sheet. That way I can access on my phone, computer, or IPAD. Honestly, it makes you super neat!

Get Ready- Fashion week is fun & eventful. You’ll network with different people that love fashion much as you do! Don’t get overwhelmed, if you get shy to talk to others. the best way to get a conversation, “I love your shoes. I love sunnies super cute” It’s worked for me every time!

The take ways from this experience:
1.      The dates your attending Fashion week
2.      Plan your outfits months in an advance
3.      Write the best pitch letter
4.      Find a place on Airbnb; find a cheap place that’s in the city Manhattan
5.      Make a schedule of the shows you’ll be attending
6.      Get ready to have the most fun as possible in a fashion frenzy environment
Stay tuned for all fashion week looks on the blog, Instagram (stories)…See you at NYFW!
